2002 Ms. World Leather,
Karen McGee has asked, for her platform, that the Leather community
across the United States come together to gather money and donations
to benefit homeless people with AIDS. It's called the "Leather
Day of Caring" "Karen McGee, Ms World Leather (MsWL) 2002 and the Ms World Leather Organization, in a combined effort are calling on our Leather Community across the world to take one day to make a difference. We are requesting of our Pansexual family, tribe, brothers, sisters, clubs, organizations and individuals of the Leather community to care for the homeless specifically those with aids in your own communities. Easter Weekend, Saturday, April 19, 2003" Karen McGee says that 1 out of 4 homeless people have AIDS, and that the average age of a homeless person is 9 years old. In answer to that, we're sponsoring St. Leo's Soup Kitchen (details below) and are asking the Leather/BDSM/DS/SM community to bring donations (details about donations follow) to this fundraising weekend April 11th through the 13th. BASKET/ITEM AUCTION:
Three days of silent auctions!! We're asking groups, clubs and individuals
to donate items and/or put together baskets that can be auctioned off
in a silent auction to benefit St. Leo's Soup Kitchen. If you or your
group would like to donate a basket or item to be auctioned off, please
contact MiLeatherDay@aol.com. Winners of the basket/item auction will need to pay for anything they won at the conclusion of that evening. Items bid on Friday night will be won and paid for on Friday night, and so on. Checks (made out to St. Leo's Soup Kitchen) and cash are accepted. ABOUT ST. LEO'S:
St. Leo's is one of the largest soup kitchens in Wayne County. WHAT TO DONATE? Their first need is money. Checks can be made out to "St. Leo's Soup Kitchen". Cash is also accepted. They can also use gift cards from Meijers, Home Depot, etc. Items can also be brought anytime during the "Leather Weekend of Caring" events and brought to the Donation Station at Diamond Jim's. They need a heavy-duty
washer and dryer. If you have these to donate, don't bring them to the
event.. instead, call St. Leo's directly to arrange for delivery: They can use the hotel size shampoo, conditioner, lotion, soap and small samples of deodorant, razors etc for the hygiene kits that they hand out. If you have any of these at home, please bring in all that you can. They can use warm clothing in all sizes. They serve infants, children, men, women and the elderly. They can use industrial size cans and boxes of food for the soup kitchen. If you only have small items from your shelves, they can hand these out to people who need to take food with them. So smaller nonperishable food items are welcome too. They need paper plates, napkins, plasticware and disposable cups for the food kitchen. They need towels for people to use after they have showered. They very much need clean, NEW underwear in all sizes for men, women and children. They need books for their library. They also invite groups to go and work at the shelter to help out in the soup kitchen. If you or your group would like to arrange a day that you can go to help serve food, please feel free to contact me and I'll get you the necessary information. TAX DEDUCTIBLE?? When you make your donation at the event, you will receive a receipt. So yes, your donation is tax deductible whether it be money or items. If you can't make
it to the Leather Weekend of Caring, but still want to donate, please
write to MiLeatherDay@aol.com
so we can work something out. If this event is
as successful as we hope it will be, we may need some help making the
delivery on April 19th, which is the official "Leather Day of Caring".
If you're free that day and have a truck or van, please write to MiLeatherDay@aol.com.
We'll be taking donations from Center Line to the shelter in Detroit
& have ourselves a "Leather Convoy"!! We're hoping to
fill at least a couple trucks. There is a partial
list of Michigan shelters available at:
click here If you have your
own fundraiser, please either email swtmollie@aol.com so that we can
keep a tally of Michigan donations, or let Ms. World Leather know by
writing Another shelter
